Today on the program we are discussing 2014 run on Captain Marvel by Kelly Sue DeConnick and David Lopez. In 2014 the title was relaunched – surprisingly for Marvel – with a new #1 (sarcasm detected). In this run Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel is freed from the confines of New York City and finds her stories in a more cosmic arena. She helps intergalactic refugees, thwarts space crime syndicate, disrupts an arranged alien marriage in rhyme, learns that her cat is an interdimensional being with pockets of reality inside it, and discovers her ship has a sarcasm detector.

Told on an epic scale in intimate ways this run of Captain Marvel re-defined who the character was and will become. It’s quite good actually.

In addition we also discuss the rehiring of James Gunn by Disney, Ezra Miller getting fed up and just hiring Grant Morrison to write the dang Flash movie and Paul takes a few minutes to give a brief (and more than likely inaccurate) history of Captain Marvel in Marvel comics.

In addition we want to send our sympathies and condolences to the people of New Zealand and to those who lost loved ones in this reprehensible act of violence and hatred. We love you and stand with you.

So join us – Paul Matthew Carr and Brian K. Reese – for a lively and rambling and hopefully entertaining discussion on comics and comic related material.
