Hello and welcome to the Collected Edition – a comic book podcast where we explore celebrated story-arcs from comics and creators throughout the entirety of history.

Today on the program – a classic story by a legendary creator. We’ll be talking about DC: the New Frontier by Darwyn Cooke. This is a nostalgic look at the Gold and Silver Ages of comics weaving the classic DC characters into history and telling a tale that is both a love letter to the 1950s and a critical look at it’s faults. All with Darwyn Cooke’s unique style that has a very old-timey/golden age feel and style but at the same time it is very modern. And if you need a prime example of why comics is a unique and different medium look no further than The New Frontier. DC: the New Frontier is a combination of art, illustration, prose, pulp and cinema – all combined in a way that produce something that no other medium can produce.

Also on the show we discuss the latest cash grab – sorry, I mean new and interesting project Marvel #1000. This will be a one-shot coming in august to celebrate the publisher’s 80-year history which kicked off with 1939’s Marvel Comics #1. Well…that is to say it would be the 1000th issues had the comic continued without interruption – which of course it didn’t. And I should say by “discussion” I really mean I sit then quietly while Brian shares his thoughts and feelings.

So join us – Paul Matthew Carr and Brian K. Reese – for a lively and rambling and hopefully entertaining discussion on comics and comic related material.

Trailer played on the show: Longbox Crusade
