…aaaaannnnnnddddd we’re back!

After an extended hiatus that was exacerbated by some logistical issues Brian and Paul have returned for a lively discussion on Sandman Mystery Theater. Specifically the story arcs Dr. Death & Night of the Butcher, written by Matt Wagner & Steven Seagle with art by Vince Locke and Guy Davis. This was a Vertigo series from the 90s that attempted to capitalize on the popularity on Neil Gaiman’s Sandman series. It revives the original Golden Age Sandman character but and plays heavily on the 30s and 40s noir detective aesthetic and leaning heavily on the pulp stories of that era;  while at the same time giving the stories a distinctively 90s feel and tone.

In addition we talk briefly about a (possibly disturbing) trend in comics today – the revival of the 90s! or at least or at least a 90s aesthetic that is beginning to reemerge in comics recently. Brian and Paul hve feeling on this.

Also, we discuss the upcoming premire of the SyFy series Deadly Class based on the based on the acclaimed comic by Rick Remender.

So join us – Paul Matthew Carr and Brian K. Reese – for a lively and rambling and hopefully entertaining discussion on comics and comic related material.
