“Consider, if you will, the Phoenix, how it shines.”
On this episode, we discuss the epic that is The Dark Phoenix Saga. There are certain works that we call “seminal” “iconic” or “classic” but none truly live up to those monikers like this story. Written by Chris Claremont and drawn by John Byrne, this is the big one, the story that dwarfs all others. It is the culmination of years of storytelling and soap opera narrative. Does it live up to its reputation? Yes, its really good.
In addition, we talk about the greatness that is Chris Claremont.

Keep reading comics. Be well. Cheers.
So… has the Phoenix Force ever wanted another host? I know there were temporary people “possessed” by it, but it always favors Jean Grey. Is she the only “Phoenix”? It’s been so long since I read them…
Well, I am in no way a scholar of X-Men lore – but that won’t stop me from giving my opinion! It is my understanding that while many have been “possessed” by the Phoenix there are only a few who are a suitable “host.” That is, there are not many who are strong enough to contain the Phoenix Force for long periods of time. Hope Summers (Jean’s daughter) was able to do it for a while, and a couple others as well, but Jean Grey is the one person who is strong enough – both power level and will – to contain the Phoenix and it the “perfect” host for it.
